NGC 2841 - "Eye of the Tiger" Galaxy in Ursa Major
NGC 2841, nicknamed “Eye of the Tiger“, is a nearby unbarred, flocculent spiral whose arms break into patchy segments rather than grand, continuous spirals; Hubble studies note it currently has a relatively low star-formation rate compared to other spirals. At a Cepheid distance of ~46 million light-years, it spans on the order of ~140–150 thousand light-years, making it Milky Way–scale or larger. Discovered by William Herschel on March 9, 1788, the galaxy hosts a LINER-type nucleus and shows a remarkably massive disk/halo.
