      NGC 1316 & NGC 1317

NGC 1316 (also known as Fornax A) is a lenticular galaxy located approximately 60 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax. The small galaxy next to it is NGC 1317.

James Dunlop, a Scottish astronomer, discovered this galaxy on 2 September 1826.

Although this galaxy is not as colourful as, for example, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) or the Triangulum Galaxy (M33), I find NGC 1316 intriguing because of its shape. And that certainly applies to its small companion NGC 1317 as well.

This was my first attempt at processing NGC 1316.

The tools I used for the processing include: GraXpert, SPCC, BlurXTerminator, NoiseXTerminator, GHS, StarXTerminator and CurvesTransformation... all in PixInsight. I stacked the subframes in Astro Pixel Processor.
