NGC 2264

NGC 2264 is a vast star-forming region in the constellation Monoceros, best known for the Christmas Tree Cluster and the Cone Nebula. In this image, glowing hydrogen gas dominates the scene, revealing sweeping filaments and arcs shaped by intense radiation from young, massive stars. Dark dust lanes cut through the nebula, obscuring parts of the background and adding depth and contrast, while patches of blue reflection nebula highlight areas where starlight is scattered by fine interstellar dust.
