Horsehead Nebula (Widefield)

Central region of the Orion Constellation, widefield. The three stars that form the belt of Orion is from upper right to just above the center of the image. The Horsehead Nebula (IC 434) and Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) are at the image center. The Orion Nebula (M42) is halfway off the lower right of the image. Just above the Orion Nebula is the Running Man Nebula (sh 2-279). It is located just above the Orion Nebula, lower right. The red emission nebula extending up the left side of the image is Barnard's Loop. The diffuse reflection nebula, M78, is located at the top left of the image, just to the right of Barnard's Loop.

The image is oriented in the orientation that a viewer in the northern hemisphere would view the Orion constellation.

The image encompasses much of the central region composed of the Orion molecular cloud and HII gas cloud complex.
