17 Hours into the Void: My Narrowband Vision of IC 1805 🫀✨

Patience is the ultimate filter in astrophotography. After collecting data for over 17 hours, the invisible structures of the cosmos finally started to reveal themselves.

This is my personal take on IC 1805, the Heart Nebula, captured in the classic Hubble Palette (HSO).

      🔭 The Astronomer’s Perspective:

Deep within the constellation Cassiopeia, the open cluster Melotte 15 acts as a cosmic sculptor. These massive stars are so energetic that their radiation pressure carves the surrounding hydrogen into the iconic heart shape we see. The blue glow in the center represents ionized Oxygen, while the golden-red fringes are sculpted by Sulfur and Hydrogen. Don't miss IC 1795 (the Fishhead Nebula) in the bottom right corner—a high-density region of active star birth.

      📸 The Astrophotographer’s Note:

Going deep was the only way to do justice to this target.

The Gear: Captured through the razor-sharp optics of the Takahashi FSQ-106 using the ZWO ASI 2600MM Pro mono camera.

The Data: 103 individual frames of 10 minutes each. This massive integration allowed me to pull out the faint, wispy outer layers of the nebula while keeping the noise floor incredibly low.

Processing: Using PixInsight, I focused on the chromatic separation of the gasses. The goal was to highlight the interaction between the hot Oxygen core and the cooler Sulfur pillars without losing the delicate details in the highlights.

      👇 Discussion:

When it comes to the Heart Nebula, do you find the central "pillars" of Melotte 15 or the surrounding "Fishhead" region more interesting?
