      NGC 3503 & NGC 3572

      NGC 3503 (on left of image) is an emission nebula with embedded star cluster discovered by John Herschel in 1834. It is approx. 7,600 to 8000 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Carina.

      NGC 3572 (to the right on the image), also referred to as the Southern Tadpoles Nebula, is an area of glowing gas and dark dust clouds along side the young stars. Dense streamers of material within the nebula, eroded by stellar winds and radiation, trailing away from three energetic young stars are likely sites of ongoing star formation with shapes reminiscent of the ‘tadpoles’ in IC 410.
