      RCW 38 in SHO narrowband

This image shows RCW 38, a complex star-forming region surrounded by glowing emission, dark molecular dust, and a rich field of stars. The nebula was processed from separate SII, Ha, and OIII masters using an SHO palette, with sulfur mapped to red, hydrogen-alpha to green, and oxygen to blue.

During processing, I moved the raw SHO combination away from the typical strong green cast and toward a softer palette of cyan, teal, bronze, and amber. Gradient correction was applied carefully because the frame contains faint real nebulosity across much of the background, so the goal was to remove uneven illumination without subtracting actual signal.

The final processing focused on revealing the layered dust lanes, faint outer emission, and compact bright structures while keeping the stars controlled and natural-looking. The result is a muted, atmospheric SHO view of RCW 38 that emphasizes both the active star-forming core and the surrounding dusty nebular environment.
