The Trifid Nebula (Brazilian Portuguese) or Trifid Nebula (European Portuguese) (Messier 20, NGC 6514) is an HII region, that is, a region composed of stellar gas and dust where recently, in astronomical terms, new stars began to form. It is located in the constellation Sagittarius and its name means "divided into three lobes".
