The Pleiades is an open cluster of middle-aged, hot 'B' type stars in the constellation of Taurus. It is around 440 ly from Earth. The nebulae around the brightest stars are likely to be an an unrelated dust cloud in the interstellar medium through which the stars are currently passing.
