Messier 46
This is an image of M46. It is an open cluster about 5,000 light years away in the constellation Puppis. There are an estimated 500 stars in the cluster with a combined mass of 453 solar masses. Planetary nebula NGC 2438 can be seen in the upper middle of the image. It does not appear NGC 2438 is part of the cluster but rather a line of sight object in the star field.
