M78 and Friends

M78 is the blue nebula right of centre, it is a reflection nebula which contains clouds of interstellar dust which reflect the light of nearby stars. It is located in the Orion constellation. Other notable nebulae in the image are NGC 2064 (the small orange/red nebula surrounded by dark dust towards the upper right), NGC 2067 (the reflection nebula just above M78, the other side of the dark band of dust) and NGC 2071 (the reflection nebula left of centre and a bit lower than M78).
