The Monkey Head Nebula
The Monkey Head Nebula, also known as NGC 2174/2175, is located in the constellation Orion. The designation NGC 2174 refers to the nebula and NGC 2175 refers to the open cluster within the nebula. It is an HII emission nebula located at a distance of 6,400 light-years from Earth.
It was discovered by Giovanni Batista Hodierna before 1654 and independently discovered by Karl Chistian Bruhns in 1857.
