      RCW 16

Discovered in the mid-20th century, RCW 16 forms part of the Rodgers, Campbell, and Whiteoak (RCW) catalogue of HII regions — areas of interstellar atomic hydrogen that are ionized. RCW 16 is particularly noted for its vivid display of star formation, a characteristic feature of HII regions. This nebula is a cradle for new stars, illuminated by the intense ultraviolet light from these young, hot stars. The stellar winds and radiation from these stars sculpt the nebula's gas and dust, creating complex and dynamic structures within it.
