RCW 16 is an emission nebula with a radius of about 200 light years which can be found in the southern constellation of Puppis, at a distance of 13000-17000 light years away from Earth. . With an age of a few million years at most, it is a very active stellar nursery, where new stars are born continuously from large clouds of dust and gas. What must be mentioned, however, is that RCW 16, in addition to the classic catalog numbers (NGC 2467, SH2-311), has several more or less popular names, such as: Skull and Crossbones Nebula, Mandrill Nebula and Chained Brooch Nebula .
