Vela SN Remnant HOO AUS-2

Here's an HOO image of the Vela Supernova Remnant in the southern constellation Vela, imaged by the AUS-2 scope. It's one of the closest supernova remnants to Earth, at an approximate distance of 850 light-years. The supergiant star which exploded as a Type II supernova, did so approximately 11,000-12,000 years ago creating the Vela Pulsar which is one of the brightest X-ray sources in the sky.
