The Rho Ophiuchi cloud

The Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex is a large star-forming region located in the constellation Ophiuchus, near the star Antares. It is one of the closest star-forming regions to our solar system, lying approximately at a distance of only about 400 light-years. The cloud complex contains several dense cores of molecular gas and dust, which are actively collapsing to form new stars and planetary systems. In fact, many of the stars in the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex are still in their infancy and are surrounded by disks of gas and dust from which new planets may eventually form. The cloud complex is also home to several spectacular reflection nebulae, which are illuminated by the light from young stars and appear as bright, glowing clouds in the night sky.
