      Vela SNR

The Vela Supernova Remnant (Vela SNR) is the expanding debris field from a supernova explosion that occurred approximately 11,000 to 12,000 years ago, located in the constellation Vela at a distance of about 800 light-years from Earth. It is one of the closest known supernova remnants and spans over 100 light-years in diameter. The remnant is associated with the Vela Pulsar, a rapidly rotating neutron star left behind by the explosion. The Vela SNR features complex filamentary structures visible in optical, radio, and X-ray wavelengths, and serves as a key object for studying supernova physics, shockwave interactions, and pulsar environments.
