IC 5146, or the Cocoon Nebula, is a star-forming region in the constellation Cygnus, about 3,300 light-years from Earth. It consists of a red emission nebula caused by excited hydrogen, bluish reflection nebulae, and dark nebulae formed by interstellar dust. Within IC 5146 lies a recently formed star cluster, energized by a massive central star.
