NGC 1300 - Grand Design Barred Spiral in Eridanus

NGC 1300 is a classic, large barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Eridanus, roughly 60-70 million light-years from Earth. It spans ~125-130,000 light-years across and is a prototype of "grand design" barred spirals - its bar funnels gas toward the nucleus, while two sweeping spiral arms emerge from the bar ends. Its center also features a smaller inner spiral structure around 1 kiloparsec (~3,300 light-years) wide, sometimes called a "spiral within a spiral".
