Two galaxies locked in a slow cosmic dance.
At the top is NGC 1316, a peculiar lenticular galaxy scarred by past mergers — its faint tidal loops, dust lanes, and chaotic halo reveal the wreckage of multiple cannibalized companions. Below it shines NGC 1317, a smaller barred spiral whose delicate structure sits quietly beside the giant. Together they form one of the most dramatic galaxy pairs in Fornax, where ancient collisions and gentle spirals share the same field of view.
