NGC 1499 - The California Nebula

This is an image of NGC 1499, also known as the California Nebula. It is an emission nebula located about 1,300 light years away in the constellation Perseus. By coincidence, the California Nebula transits in the zenith in central California as the latitude matches the declination of the object.
