NGC 1499 California Nebula

The California nebula (NGC 1499 or SH2-220) is an emission nebula in the constellation Perseus. Due to its low surface brightness, it's hard to observe visually. For this image I used the LRGB channels of the dataset.

For processing the channels were loaded into SiriL 1.4.0, denoiused using the GraxPert frontend for SiriL. After that deconvolution was performed using the build-in method in SiriL followed by a gradient removal using the AutoBGE python script for SiriL 1.4.0. With this data a SPCC color calibration was performed and the new Veralux stretching was done.

The obtained image was transferred to Affinity Photo and the stars were separated using StarXTerminator. Subsequently, the nebula was tone mapped to emphasize its structure. Finally, the stars were re-introdued.
