      Arp 273, the 'Rose'

Arp-273 as captured by SPA-2. These galaxies' unusual shape is due to their ongoing gravitational interaction with each other. The speckled blue areas across the top of the larger galaxy (UGC 1810) are filled with very hot and bright blue stars. These galaxies are approximately 300 million light years away, and 260,000 light years across from the bottom of UGC 1813 to the top of UGC 1810.
