      The Rosette Nebula

The Rosette Nebula, Caldwell 49, is an emission nebula located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the constellation of Monoceros. It spans a distance of 100 light-years and is located 5,000 light-years from Earth. This vast cloud of gas and dust is a stellar nursery where young stars are born. The hot, massive stars in the central cluster, NGC 2244, are emitting streams of charged particles carving out the gas and dust at the centre of the nebula clearing a cavity and causing the surrounding material to glow brightly.
