      NGC 1097, Barred Spiral Galaxy

NGC 1097 is a barred spiral galaxy about 45 million light years distant. It is located in the constellation Fornax. NGC 1097 is also a Seyfert galaxy. Seyfert galaxies have quasar like nuclei. They have very luminous nuclei that emit intense electromagnetic radiation. Unlike quasars the host galaxy is clearly detectable. (NASA Science)
