Hydra Cluster

The galaxy cluster Abell 1060 (Hydra Cluster), located approximately 158 million light-years from the Milky Way. It contains two bright elliptical galaxies near the center of the image (NGC 3309 and NGC 3311) and the spiral NGC 3312, located between the two bright stars, but also contains the curious NGC 3314, at lower left. These two galaxies appear perfectly aligned to the eye, but are located at very different distances (154 and 240 million light-years).

This image was remotely acquired from Chile on January 13, 2021. The total exposure was one hour in LRGB with a Planewave CDK24 60cm f/6.5 telescope and a FLI ProLine PL9000 camera.
