Messier 83 (NGC 5236), or the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy, is a vibrant barred spiral galaxy located roughly 15 million light-years away in the Hydra constellation. It is a bright starburst galaxy with a diameter of roughly 118,000 light-years, known for active star formation, numerous supernova remnants, and a peculiar double nucleus.
