IC 5070

The Pelican Nebula (IC 5070) is approx. 2,000 light-years from Earth and is found in the constellation of Cygnus. This interstellar cloud of gas is situated just off the ‘east coast’ of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000). Both are part of the came large and complex star forming region. This close-up image of a bright front of ionised gas represents the curved shape of the head and neck of the Pelican.
