      Messier 55 (NGC 6809)

I observed this object on 16 September 2015 at the Okie-Tex Star Party using a 12” Skywatcher Dobsonian. I obtained the calibrated lights frames used to create the final image from Telescope Live. The frames were imaged by the CHI-1-CCD Telescope at the El Sauce Observatory in Chile.

M55 is a bright, large globular cluster that does not have a significant core. Located with Telrad and seen in finderscope. 100 LY in diameter.

      Shapley Sawyer Classification: XI

      Distance: 17,615 LY

      Type: Hub Globular

Position w.r.t. core of galaxy: Below the MY disc and about 2/3 of the way towards the core.

      Any stars resolved: No
