M83 - Southern Pinwheel Galaxy

M83 is considered a "Grand Design" spiral galaxy that is one of the brightest in the night sky. It is unique in that it has hosted six super nova explosions in the last century and almost 300 super nova remnants have been discovered, It lies 15 million light-years distant.
