NGC2442

NGC2442, also known as the Meathook Galaxy, is an intermediate barred spiral galaxy that is approximately 50 million light-years away. The distortions in the shape are most likely the result of a gravitational encounter with galaxy AM0738-692 (upper left) about 250 million years ago, according to researchers.
