      NGC 3521

NGC 3521 was discovered by William Herschel on February 22, 1784.

NGC 3521 is an excellent example of a flocculent intermediate spiral galaxy.

Its spiral structure shows that it is made up of multiple spiral arm segments rather than continuous spiral arms.

This galaxy is unique in that its surrounding envelope displays various structures interpreted as remnants of one or more smaller galaxies that have been absorbed by it.
