      Lagoon Nebula Interior

The Lagoon Nebula, also called Messier 8, is an emission object and star forming region in the Sagittarius star fields of the milky way. It is rich in ionized hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur. Higher concentrations of gasses contribute to new star formation. It is also very reflective due to its high surface brightness. The nebula's radiation source is a large and massive blue star identified as Herschel 36 located behind the small hourglass structure. The star is also part of a triple star system. The lagoon nebula can easily be spotted with binoculars beneath a dark sky and is an excellent target for both wide-field and large aperture telescopes. Here, it is features in SLRGB color. The SII information is very rich in details thus making it an excellent candidate for a luminance channel. Software: Astro Pixel Processor, Pixinsight, RC-Astro, and Photoshop.
