Robin's Egg - an unstructured strange galaxy

NGC 1360 is commonly referred to as "Robin's Egg Nebula" due to its distinctive bluish color and egg-like appearance. This planetary nebula is located in the constellation Fornax, about 3,000 light-years away from Earth, and is a striking example of stellar evolution.

First discovered by the astronomer John Herschel in 1834, NGC 1360 exhibits a bright central star, which is a white dwarf—the remnant of a star that has gone through its life cycle and shed its outer layers. The central star emits intense ultraviolet radiation, ionizing the surrounding gas and dust, causing them to emit light and produce the nebula's characteristic glow.

The Robin's Egg Nebula displays a semi-symmetrical, oval shape, with intricate structures and variations in density throughout its shell. The nebula primarily consists of hydrogen, with traces of other elements such as helium and nitrogen, contributing to its colorful appearance observed in different wavelengths.

With an estimated age of around 6,000 years, NGC 1360 serves as a relatively young planetary nebula.
