SH2-301, also known as Gum 5, is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. Its distance from Earth is estimated at 13,000 to 19,000 light-years. The nebula's environment, rich in oxygen, hydrogen, and sulfur emissions, is often overlooked because it is located near Thor's Helmet and the Vela supernova remnant.
