The Tarantula Nebula, a Massive Star Forming Region in the Dwarf Galaxy the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC)

. It can be seen in the previous image of the LMC, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. In the previous image it is located in the lower center of the LMC. This image was purposely processed to show detail in the nucleus of the nebula. It consists of extensive hydrogen gas clouds (HII regions) that provide the ingredients for star formation. It is the home of the most massive stars ever seen (NASA).
