Galaxy NGC 3521.

Type 1C supernovae are thought to form from the core collapse of particularly massive stars that have previously lost their outer layers. That’s why both type 1C and type 1B supernovae are commonly referred to as stripped core-collapse supernovae. (Astronomy Magazine)

NGC 3521 is a flocculent intermediate spiral galaxy. It is located in the constellation Leo. It's distance is 35 MLY.

Flocculent galaxies, compared to standard spirals, have a patchy structure in their spiral arms. The spiral arms are discontinuous.

NGC 3521 is also embedded in fainter, gigantic, bubble-like shells. The shells are likely tidal debris, streams of stars torn from satellite galaxies that have undergone mergers with NGC 3521 in the distant past. (NASA Science)

As stated earlier SN2024aecx was detected by ATLAS (USA) on 12/16/2024. Imaging was performed by Telescope Live from between 12/27/2024 and 1/1/2025.
