Hoag’s Object is an unsual ring Galaxy in the Consterllation Serpens Caput named after Arthur Hoag who disovered it in 1950 shinning at Mag 15.These ring galaxies are considered rare but by chance the Hubble Space Telescope when first imaged showed another Ring Galaxy at 1.00 O’Clock position
It was first thought to be a chain of stars but was then considered to be a similar background Galaxy.
Thanks for posting the Wallpaper as it used to be my Facebook Avitar in 2005 12 months after Facebook kicked Off
This year is also my 40th year Astro Imaging after buying my first Scope in 1972…..
