Orion Vista

Nebulosity in Orion extends far beyond the familiar Orion Nebula, M42, seen here shining in the lower half of the picture (with its companions M43 and the 'running man' nebula, NGC 1977). At top left (north-east), around Zeta Ori, the leftmost of the three stars making up Orion's Belt, can be seen the Flame Nebula , NGC 2024, and the Horsehead, Barnard 33.

This image is a two-frame mosaic constructed from Takahashi data with narrow-band HSO filters, and is rendered here in a pseudo-RGB palette.
