IC 1613

IC 1613 (also known as C 51) is a galaxy in the constellation Cetus.

It is located at the extreme limit of the Local Group; It is an irregular dwarf galaxy, visible only with telescopes of a certain power, because, despite its magnitude being 9.2, it is an elusive object. Until the 1970s, no objects such as clusters and nebulae had been found in this galaxy; Today only a few dozen are known, while interstellar dust is practically absent, to the point that it is possible to observe other distant galaxies through this one. It does not appear to be gravitationally linked to any member of the Local Group; it is 2.9 million light-years away from the Milky Way.
