      RCW 61

RCW 61 is part of the "Running Chicken" nebula, whatever it may be or resemble, but apparently when you try something hallucinogenic, everything becomes clear ;) The nebula is created by something that looks like a central star, but in fact it is a binary system. This central point of light is two rare O stars orbiting very close to each other, this binary star is known as HD 100099. The enormous amounts of energy emitted by the central binary star system have ionized the surrounding gas and hollowed out the space around it. The circular shape of the nebula also shows the limit of the range of energy coming from these two stars. RCW 61 is approximately 7,500 light-years from Earth.
