NGC 1491

NGC 1491 is an emission nebula, visible in the constellation Perseus. The nebula is located in the northern part of the constellation, bordering the Giraffe; it can be easily located, being about 2° NNW from the star λ Persei, a white subgiant of magnitude 4.25 clearly visible to the naked eye. It can also be detected with a medium-power amateur telescope, preferably with the help of filters.

Its strongly northern declination means that it can be easily observed during most of the nights of the year from the northern hemisphere, while from the southern hemisphere its observation is penalized; The period in which it reaches its highest elevation above the horizon is between the months of October and February.
