ANTENNAE GALAXIES

NGC 4038 and NGC 4039 also called "Antennae Galaxies" are a pair of interacting galaxies located about 45 million light-years away and visible in the direction of the constellation Corvus. They are currently experiencing an exceptionally high rate of star formation due to the collision between the two. About 300 million years ago, stars began to be released from both galaxies, today those ejected stars extend far beyond the galaxies, resembling the antennae of an insect.
