NGC 6729 and the Corona Australis molecular cloud

LRGB-image of a detailed part of the Corona Australis Molecular Cloud, captured with CHI-1 (Planewave CDK24). Used data from 4 one-click observations of NGC 6729 with total integration time of 6 hours.

The picture shows NGC 6729 - the small yellowish fan shaped object - a variable reflection and emission nebula, which is powered by R Coronae Australis (R CrA), an irregular variable star.

NGC 6726, NGC 6727 and IC 4812 show a striking complex of reflection nebulae that produce the characteristic blue color, as light from the region's young hot stars is reflected by the cosmic dust.

Bernes 157 (on the left bottom corner) is a dark nebula that is so dense that stars inside the nebula and behind it cannot shine through.

Many so-called Herbig-Haro objects (HH) are also found in the CrA Molecular Complex: HH 82, 97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 104, 733, 735… These can be recognized as small (reddish) arcs and loops of glowing gas.

HH-objects are bright patches of nebulosity associated with newborn stars. They are formed when narrow jets of partially ionized gas ejected by stars collide with nearby clouds of gas and dust at several hundred kilometres per second.

The most striking example is HH 100: see zoomed picture.
