NGC 6559 is a mixed emission and reflection nebula located in the constellation Sagittarius, approximately 5,000 light-years from Earth. It lies just east of the larger Lagoon Nebula (M8) and is part of the same vast star-forming complex. The nebula features bright red regions of ionized hydrogen (Hα), blue reflection areas, and dark dust lanes, all sculpted by young, massive stars. NGC 6559 is a vivid example of an active stellar nursery and offers a striking combination of colors and structures typical of early star formation environments.
